On August 6, 2025, Digi-I LPP Agro Nusantara successfully held an online webinar as part of the Online Webinar Series #6 entitled “Smart Land Selection: Preventing Risks through Settlement Suitability Analysis.” This activity aimed to increase participants’ understanding of the importance of settlement suitability analysis as a means of preventing disaster risks and supporting sustainable spatial planning based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
The webinar featured Nafisya Putri Mafenska, S.Geo, GIS Specialist at PT LPP Agro Nusantara, as the speaker. The material presented covered the basic concepts of land suitability mapping, the background of settlement development issues, and the objectives and benefits of mapping in supporting spatial decision-making.
The discussion continued with a presentation on mapping methodology, including scoring and overlay methods, spatial data sources used, and land suitability parameters such as slope, drainage, soil type and texture, disaster vulnerability, and land use. The speakers also explained the stages of land suitability analysis and assessment, interpretation of mapping results, and recommendations for safe and sustainable settlement development policies.
The webinar was moderated by Rr Tiara Dyah Ayu Pramesti, S.T., and was interactive with discussion sessions and active questions and answers from participants. Case studies and examples of mapping results provided a real picture of the challenges of land conversion, increased flood risk, and socio-economic implications in residential area development.
The enthusiasm of the participants was evident from the 87 registrants, with 49 participants attending from various backgrounds, ranging from students, academics, to practitioners in the fields of geospatial, regional planning, and disaster management.
Through this webinar, Digi-I LPP Agro Nusantara hopes to encourage the more systematic and data-driven use of land suitability analysis as a basis for residential planning, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable regional development.
